Meet Maria

My love of sewing and creating started long before bridal ever came into the picture.

Growing up, my mum sewed, and I discovered my own love of textiles at school. I started by making dolls and clothes for them, and quickly fell in love with the creativity of taking fabric and turning it into something completely new.

I went on to complete an Advanced Certificate in Clothing Manufacture, studying design, pattern making, garment construction and industrial sewing while working within Melbourne's thriving clothing industry.

My early career took me into the heart of Melbourne's “rag trade”, where I learnt not only how garments were made, but how the entire industry came together. I later moved into production and quality control management, working with factories and overseeing garments destined for stores across Melbourne and Sydney.

Finding Bridal

After marriage, children and a move to rural Queensland, I stepped away from the rag trade but never completely away from sewing. I made ballet costumes and tutus for local schools, alongside dressmaking, evening wear and the occasional bridal piece and clothes for my girls as they grew.

When life brought us back to Melbourne, I began working alongside a bridal designer specialising in couture gowns to find my feet again. 2 and half years later when she retired, I took over her clients and continued creating couture bridal gowns from my home in Wheelers Hill.

As the bridal industry changed, so did the way I worked. Couture became increasingly expensive, designer labels became more accessible and brides wanted greater choice and flexibility.

I moved with those changes, but never wanted to lose the part of bridal I loved most: the personal connection and the ability to make a gown truly work for the woman wearing it.

Today, I work with carefully selected designer gowns while bringing more than 30 years of experience in garment construction, couture and alterations to every appointment. Whether it's adjusting the fit, adding a sleeve, changing a length or introducing a personal detail, I love finding those little ways to make a beautiful gown feel like your gown.

Alterations & Those Little Miracles

That same love of making something work extends well beyond bridal.

For years, I've been helping people throughout Bass Coast with everyday alterations, from a simple hem or adjusting a fit to those trickier pieces that need a little more thought and creativity.

I often call them my minor miracles. Sometimes a small alteration is all it takes to make something fit beautifully, feel comfortable or give a much loved piece of clothing another life.

There's something incredibly satisfying about working with what someone already owns and finding a way to make it work for them, rather than seeing a perfectly good garment pushed to the back of the wardrobe or thrown away.

Maria's Bridal Studio, Inverloch

Maria's Bridal Studio brings all of that experience into a private and intimate space here in Inverloch.

It's a place where appointments aren't rushed, brides have the freedom to discover what they genuinely love, and everything from your gown and alterations through to veils and jewellery can come together in one place.

Whether I'm helping a bride find her gown, altering something special or simply fixing the hem on a favourite pair of pants, it comes back to what I've always loved most: quality workmanship, personal connection and helping people walk away loving what they're wearing.
